Our days are busy with senior, business portraits or headshots, real estate photography, child and family portraits. Brave people are once again getting out and coming by the studio. The real estate market is still strong and, that alone drives a lot of business.
However, a very sad thing happened this last week. One of our dogs got very ill and we had to say a final goodbye with a lengthy scratch and hug. Burton was his name and his story started with a visit to Animal Village by my oldest daughter. She and a friend that day fell in love with two of the most improbable dogs. They were a Lab-Corgi mix and those dog parts should never have been a dog. They were a lot like a softball with very short legs. Burt, my dog, had feet that made a 90-degree turn from his leg so stood like a ballerina holding a pose. When he was very young he could run like the wind and be able to make sudden turns because he had such a low center of gravity. Burt and his sister were discarded in a box where a kind person took them to Animal Village in Little Rock. From there he moved up to the life fit for a king. We had the same contract dogs have had with humans for thousands of years. When dangerous strangers came near he barked out the warning that earned a place at the fire and in our hearts.
