I was delighted to work with Rose a few days ago. She wanted to go to a site I really like that has railroad tracks, a rustic fence and golden tall grass that’s great for photography. How she was able to walk down the track in those high heals I will never know. I bet you will be asking yourself “I wonder what she is thinking” in some of her contemplative poses. The beautiful bright summer afternoon provided a great background for the session.
The Class of 2018 has started arriving for their Senior Portrait sessions. Many of the seniors are from Mount Saint Mary Academy which is a private Catholic school for girls. My daughters attended “Mount” as well as my wife. MSM is an institution stressing the highest in academic achievement. The “Mount” seniors first have their “Drape Portrait” made which is used in the MSM Yearbook and display composite. We then start on their casual or “fun” photos which feature their pets, sports clothing, musical instruments and other items important to them. We try to tell a story about the senior with photos. So that forty years from now family members will be able to see the many dimensions of their loved ones. There is always a discussion concerning the outdoor location. We do not require that you provide an outdoor area, we offer your several options on location which we know work well. Senior stand in the creek, straddle the center line of the road or saunter down the railroad tracks. We use professional photographic equipment that provides us the quality we require.
“BEING YOUNG AND FREE IS TO LIVE YOUTHFULLY WITH PURSUIT OF YOUR OWN IDEALS OF CELEBRATING LIFE. IT’S ABOUT LIVING IN THE MOMENT AND STAYING TRUE TO YOURSELF AND NOT TRYING TO BE ANYTHING DIFFERENT. NOT EVERYONE IS GIVEN TIME FOR YOUTH OR A CHANCE AT FREEDOM SO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OPPORTUNITIES WHEN YOU CAN ENJOY YOURSELF AND LIVE LIFE TO ITS FULLEST.”
I remember my senior portrait session I wore my blue suite with the huge lapels. It was for the yearbook and for my parents to purchase. I do miss my dark curly hair. The session was quick and the studio did a nice job for the time. That was the same studio that was training me as the yearbook and newspaper photographer. They gave me a huge camera that only shot eight photos on a roll of film. So every eight shots my rolls of film were developed and contact prints made. A professional photographer would then critique each photo and advise me on how to make the best use film, composition and developing supplies. They didn’t want me wasting valuable resources. It was great way to learn.
